The LakeSuperior Hostel was established in 1983 to provide low cost lodging and meals to groups interested in skiing at Lutsen Mountains, on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. We have been providing this service every year since. Being licensed for up to 75 persons, we can most likely accommodate your group. The vast majority of participants are youth groups, many being associated with Church programs.

We house our guests at the Birch Grove Community Center, which is a 45 year old elementary school located in Tofte, MN, 8 miles south of Lutsen Mountains. We are partnered with the Birch Grove Foundation, which leases space to us. They are a non-profit organization with the primary purpose of supporting the Birch Grove Community School (a small charter elementary school located on site). We provide foam mattresses, and sleep groups in 3 former classrooms.  Guests provide their own sleeping bags, pillows, towels, etc. We have 3 showers for girls, and two for boys. Most groups opt for the food service also, but that is not required. More details on our most popular winter package are listed here.

Facilities available for use in the winter include a small gymnasium, ice skating rink, Grand Marais Municipal Pool (located 25 miles north), Lutsen Mountains ski area, & groomed cross country ski trails. Summer activities also include Superior Hiking Trail, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), kayaking on Lake Superior, and biking on the new Gitchi Gami Bike Trail, which runs right through our property.
